Want to learn more about the Bible, theology, or experience a special worship service?
On Wednesday nights in January and February, starting at 6:30 pm, we will offer new opportunities for the whole church, friends and neighbors, to gather for unique fellowship activities to help us get to know each other more deeply as friends and fellow disciples!
January 9 and February 6 – Special worship service
We will continue to offer a special worship service one Wednesday as an opportunity for all Mt Zion members, our friends and neighbors to gather with a unique emphasis or theme. Please come to worship Wednesday, January 9 at 6:30 pm for a special healing service, featuring the reading of Scripture, prayer, and time for meditation.
January 23 and February 20 – Faith and Film Screening
Few things can change lives and open up our perspectives the way art can. On Wednesday, January 16 we will be opening up one of Mt Zion’s greatest resources — the second floor theater — for our first Faith and Film Screening, featuring movies that inspire conversations related to faith, community, and discipleship.
Our first film “Sweetland” is a beautiful film you may never have heard of … but will likely tell everyone about after you see it! Experience the “scandalous” [but PG] romance between a Norwegian immigrant farmer and his just-arrived German bride to be, in the early twentieth century midwest. Understand the courage and connection to the land these newcomers had and take a short vacation away from winter to be swept away into the warmth of a summer landscape. View the trailer.
Pastor Josh can’t wait to invite you into the wonder of Sweetland and the Epiphany themes we can draw from it about the power of church communities and inclusion of “outsiders,” generosity, and generational connections. The popcorn pops at 6:30 pm January 16.
January 23 and February 20 – Bible study
On the third Wednesday in the Hearth Room, we will have an evening Bible Study focused on themes and topics that are important to 21st century Christian discipleship.
On Wednesday, January 23 we will have a time to better understand “Christian Perspectives on Human Sexuality,” and why Christian communities like Mt Zion feel called to welcome all to our community, regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation. This is an important and often controversial topic. Pastor Josh will guide our conversation about why Christians interpret the Bible in different ways and our own journeys and perspectives connected to the LGBTQIA+ community. It’s been almost 20 years since Mt Zion became a Reconciling in Christ Congregation, and we will recognize our RIC identity in our services on Sunday, January 27.
January 30 and February 27 – Theology on Tap
Small Group discussions around the Gathering Space tables with food and drink for all ages! This is a great way to get to know people better and enjoy interesting conversation.
All are welcome to join us for one or more of these special evenings! If you want to know more or have topics you’d like to discuss, email [email protected]!
