After 25 years of silence, Mt Zion’s Bell Tower is ringing again!
The bell tower will be formally dedicated during both services on Sunday, December 13, as the W. Lawrence Shrode Bell Tower, honoring Larry, who had been the music director and organist at Mt Zion for over 30 years, until his death.
Our thanks to the special donors that made this possible: Joe & Chris Kress, PJ Boylan and the estate of John Alley, and Karen Dabbart. We’d also like to thank Lee Manufacturing Company of Muskego for so beautifully completing the renovations.
The bells are programmed to ring every hour from 9 am through 9 pm, except when services are being held. Even while the bells were being installed and tested, we received an email through our website from one of our neighbors:
“Just wanted to tell you how beautiful the bells sound this afternoon! God Bless You All! It brings back some great memories from my childhood growing up around here my whole life.”
Also, on Sunday, our new chimes are being dedicated. The chimes are in addition to the bells that are played by our bell choir. The sound is different, and there is a different technique to play them.
