ELCA Global Ministries Part of this ministry includes the familiar practice of sending missionaries to foreign countries, but this endeavor looks very different than it did a century ago. For instance, to check out the website of a young ELCA missionary in Guyana, Rev. Brian Konkol (a classmate of Pastor Mohn’s). Brian is a parish pastor, a director of a camp, and a facilitator of groups visiting Guyana from the U.S. In addition to full-time missionaries, the ELCA also sends short-term medical or educational missionaries to teach and equip communities, and helps to supply seminaries that train global pastors. And, believe it or not, the ELCA is receiving pastors from other countries as missionaries to churches in the U.S., bringing the energy and fire of some of the fastest-growing Lutheran churches back to inspire those in America. The ELCA is also part of Lutheran World Relief, an organization with a fabulous track record for responding to disasters like the tsunami in Southeast Asia, and earthquakes in Guatemala and Pakistan. They are also present in areas of conflict to provide resources and support for those caught in the crossfire. When you are a part of Mt. Zion’s mission, you are also a part of these critical ministries, helping to bring Christ’s love to the most vulnerable. For more information about ELCA Global Mission, check out their website. |
